So my mom's mom remained "grandma" and my dad's stepmom, since she lived in a house in Northern California in a really heavily forested area became "grandma in the woods"

Only in Russian though. In English they were both just grandma. This is the only reason I could think of for why I just called them by their first names like an adult even though I was like 5

Because I only had one grandpa, I just called him the Russian equivalent of "Gramps" or "old man", not even the dignity of regular old "grandpa" lol
