Important Smash update megadoomer

Glad for whatever reason I did not get my Piranha Plant

Good thing I don't play All Star mode!

Was not aware it happened because of classic mode as well. Thankfully, I dodged that bullet, but that seems like a pretty big bug to miss.

Based on what I read, it seems like it mainly (only?) happens with the digital version. I got the game physically (if something goes wrong with my Switch, I'd like to guarantee that I keep major releases at the very least), but I'll avoid All-Star Smash to be safe. (Though that mode's not very fun in this game anyway)

Maybe this is why I didnt get it; maybe Nintendo spotted the bug and stopped giving out Pirahna Plant

Still, it couldn't hurt to get in touch with Nintendo's customer support - since you got it digitally, there should be a record of that transaction somewhere, and once you get the code, you have until June to enter it. They should patch the game soon to fix this bug, and then you'll be safe to put the code into the eShop and download the character.

because I had a hard time setting up a Nintendo account

Kept hitting the resend button and finally tried another email and it worked

Whoops. I played classic mode with Piranha Plant. I didn't get the corruption though.
