[the scarlet pimpernel] I... find myself not liking the book much >>
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
XD part of it is different expectations because I saw the show before I read the book and the book is just about his wife it seems
coco_rose
Too romance heavy?
coco_rose
Ah, yup. (LOL)
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
it's just there's only so much melodrama that I can take rofl
toomanydogs
The other books are better, imo
coco_rose
The first book is a lot of that.
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
she was so concerned for her love that she forgot about her brother which started this whole thing
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
You don't even know him that well
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
but I'll try the one after to see what it's like
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
since I'm just about done with this one
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
and though I haven't reached the episode with FFoulkes yet
coco_rose
I do too now. ^^
coco_rose
I do like those books/stories where it's more about the characters outsmarting the other side better. But... I am a sucker for the romance so the first book doesn't bother me.
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
I mean it's not bad by any means
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
and I do like it in a roundabout way but
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
XD it's just a little too much for my taste
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
speaking of old books though have you ever read the Phantom of the Opera?
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
because that book is not meant to be funny but it kills me every time
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
I do like her a s a character though oddly enough just /gestures
coco_rose
I have not. I've seen a ton of the PotOpera movies though
coco_rose
I like her too but lol, yes, she is dram
coco_rose
drama*
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
tho I mean Percy is JUST AS DRAMATIC
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
and I like the thought of her being on his level mentally
coco_rose
YUP :-D They are well suited to each other they just needed to SPEAK to one another about things in that first book
toomanydogs
POTO is a weird read. Susan Kay's Phantom is far, far, superior.
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
they both have their strengths and weaknesses
Streets of Edo
I never liked the books but that's because they're so pro-aristocracy and anti-revolution... not just anti-Reign of Terror but the whole revolution.
TrailTracer
I think I perfer older works in audio book form
TrailTracer
I'm reading two of these novels right now at the same time and they seem moslty about everyone else and likely someone in the room might be the Pimpernel
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
and yeah it is a bit anti-revolution
TrailTracer
oh damn she's really making the French make Vald the Imaler look tame.
TrailTracer
cartoonly levels of bias going on
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
/nods. I think it's a book of it's time tho XD really which doesn't excuse it but
