I overslept as fuck this morning. And the reason it bugs me is because on friday I got up on time and used that hour to do tags and it left me with a good feeling all day

One tag in done

Ok my monday grump: Why is there so much testosterone in the outdoorsy/survivalist community. I want to know what I should have in a possibles pouch, not an essay on why you don't like the term man bag.
Craftyviking
I do have a version of this that sort of lives in my day to day bag.
Craftyviking
Contains stuff like a nail file, first aid stuff, a pad, tweezers..
Craftyviking
I would like one to live in a hiking bag.
Craftyviking
I am thinking: Multitool, firstaid kit, matches, flashlight (or preferably head lamp), water bottle, compass, map
Craftyviking
and some food of some sort
Craftyviking
I am also thinking of having a kit of SAR missions: Which would be the above plus a clean layer of wool all over,
Craftyviking
Sam's possibles bag would be easier: collapsable bowl, some treats, maybe a towel. In an emergency we could use first aid stuff from a human first aid kit

Oh god, the outdoor testosterone. I work for the National Park Service and run into this on occasions. Especially in certain divisions. But, yeah, all the things you listed are things I keep in my hiking day pack. Plus also a small pair of binoculars because I got tired of going "Hey, what's that?" /squints into the distance "Uh...I don't know what that is."

And also my cell phone, fully charged (in airplane mode to conserve battery, although older phones can't GPS in airplane mode), with the Avenza app loaded on it with a shit ton of USGS topos. (Compass and paper map as emergency backup.)

I've been thinking of getting an emergency blanket to throw in there, but I don't have one yet. Not too worried about it because I'm in the desert and it's just not that cold. Even in winter I could overnight without a blanket without risk of dying of hypothermia. But if I were somewhere colder, I'd get one.
Craftyviking
Oh that is a good idea
Craftyviking
One of those space blankets don't weigh much
Craftyviking
I am not certified for winter rescue but that only means I won't be going out in snow
Craftyviking
Binoculars is a good idea and also a small mirror if I am not packing my compas
Craftyviking
Oh and reflectors of some sort
Craftyviking
Back when I got certified for SAR we did a night search where my team did the find and I was actually the one who found our 'lost' person. And the only reason I did was a small reflecting thing on his jacket. We were about to go search down a totally different path when I spotted it
Craftyviking
of course we were big reflective vests when we're on duty.
Craftyviking
Those are our 'uniform'
