If you remember the fan translation of this strip, the original had a joke in the middle more like "With 'dragon' in her name, her parents must be DQN."/"You realize that's her last name..."

That honestly wasn't all that funny, and put in English with a translation that puts names into Western order, it doesn't make sense for the canonblind player to assume that "Pendragon" was her given name.

So the official translation instead picks on the name "Altria" and says flat out, "We can't do anything about that."

This instead addresses complaints from the fanbase who either want the logical canon name (Artoria) or the name they're used to from Mirror-Moon's fan translation and Geneon's dub of the DEEN anime (Arturia).
We know it's supposed to be Artoria, but for more recent Fate media, Type-Moon has been insisting on Altria.

So the translator is explaining, in their own way, that it's not like Tokyopop changing Ptilol from Sailor Moon into "Petite Roll" because they gave up trying to figure out what it was. It's more like how ADV had to plead with Gainax for months to allow them to use "child" instead of "children" for a singular Eva pilot.

I don't know, I just thought it was interesting.

(And, of course, the punchline was also reworded to be much more charitable to canonblind FGO players compared to the more insulting fan translation... not sure what the original sounded like there.)

Yarn Temptress : DQN names, or "stupid names"/"delinquent names," also known as "kirakira names." Basically the Japanese equivalent of naming your kid after a road sign and/or with too many Y's.

Examples include writing your kid's name with the kanji "hoshi" but pronouncing it "kirara"... or those unfortunate people who named their kid Yaoi.

And yeah the Altria name came from type moon using it themselves in one of the material books and now they’re pushing it more... even though they’ve... also used Artoria before too...

Yeah, I remember that. Didn't it come from the exact same book where they explained that her name is supposed to be a feminized "Artorius?"

I feel bad for fgo en team honestly for dealing with that backlash bc it’s not their fault at all but at least they found a good opportunity to make a real clever joke to replace one that wouldn’t have worked in english

What drives me nuts is the Master Artoria thing happened years after THAT (around the time of the f/z anime) and was on official art Takeuchi himself drew SO UH.....

(And apparently Artoria is used in the Extella localization too but I haven’t been able to confirm this but I’m betting that studio just doesn’t have the company breathing down their neck as much as the fgo en team most definitely is)
