She got shot with the Enfield Rifles and their bullets kind of uh, turned into little squashed pancakes?

they flatten as they fly, but they're still separate gunpowder and bullet, so they just don't have the fire power to puncture through to the otherside

So they tend to do the musket ball thing in that they can't really do a through and through wound but they do the little squash pancake thing of modern bullets

that there is probably a fucked bullet stuck in her back which just gets healed around every day into old scar tissue

and it sucks to breath too deeply I'd imagine
