Doug Walker will quit being the Nostalgia Critic and Mike Michaud, having no recourse to continue making money, will adopt the persona, putting on the cursed hat and freeing Doug from the burden after so long, Michaud's mind instantly being rewritten with the Critic's personality

Doug Walker removes the hat and walks away, his body slowly crumbling to dust.

Slowly, reluctantly, Michaud dons it, all other hosts gone, his face shifting. Changing. A bad goatee grows. His eyes glass over. A pitiful smile forms.

He will remember it.

Let me finish this paper and then I will explain it because oh boy, there's some major shit going down here.

the only one I still watch is Lindsay Ellis in her solo film crit analysis career

So it started back in March, someone asked Allison Pregler/Obscurus Lupa about her take on a Nostalgia Critic review, and she responded with some pretty harsh venomous stuff about her relationship to the channel.

This led to a long Twitter thread where a bunch of former contributors basically ethered the fuck out Channel Awesome, particularly their management.

And shortly after a huge google document was published that detailed all kinds of horrible shit that happened, with named and anonymous contributors.

Including things like people getting grifted out of money, the management forcing a rape scene in one of the movies between two people who didn't want that, an actual sexual assault, people collapsing during filming because they didn't want to provide water, a woman being fired for taking time off for major surgery and forced to sign a non-compete contract..

It was long and most of it was horrifying.

This lead to a #changethechannel hashtag, and some digging on people's parts to find out that Doug Walker, while kind of a shithead, actually didn't own the character of Nostalgia Critic -- the Channel Awesome owners owned it.

CA makes an announcement in April that basically amounts to nothing and included "we're sorry you feel this way" as a message to the detractors.

Which lead to a massive fucking exodus beginning in earnest.

At the current moment, the channel has one member left: Larry Bundy Jr, aka Guru Larry, who I think had joined the channel as part of a joke at some point and had been ignoring it.

And is immensely taking the piss on the owners. Doug Walker has given up being the Nostalgia Critic and left, even, at this point.

That last part's not officially confirmed but Doug Walker deleted his LinkedIn, has Channel Awesome marked as a former employer on his Facebook, and has marked Nostalgia Critic as ended on IMDB. Rumor is him and Rob are suing for the character.
