Linden Lab to Remove & Replace Sansar Content Cr...

Maybe, but LL has been clear that Sansar will work differently from SL in some key ways that SLers have gotten used to, like broad creator liberty. It's too bad they hadn't decided on this before there was user-created terrain, but optimizing performance is a very legit reason to do that.
Lette
One of the reasons SL often creates performance issues for people who have no trouble zooming through MMORPGs is the sheer unpredictability of the physical environment, thanks to the unlimited number of people designing an unlimited range of objects that other users's systems need to render.

I don't understand why LL is not leaving it up to the developer. Like, if they don't care if their shit isn't optimized, why not add a warning flag in the Atlas or something, and let the user build it however the fuck they want?

Because a developer's non-optimized crap purchased by someone who doesn't know or care, can ruin the experience for crowds of people around them.

Also, diversification of products (LL products, not user products). If you want a world where creators have lots of freedom, SL is your place. If you want a one where LL puts more constraints on them in the interest of improving performance for all, apparently it's Sansar (but I'm not in Sansar, so I'm just making a supposition there).

If I'm not mistaken, the reason they might want to focus on performance over creator freedom compared to SL (if in fact that's generally true) would be VR compatibility, which likely places greater performance demands on users' systems even before having to worry about what they have to render. Again, just guessing here.

azaiya: Your most recent post raises good point. They likely don’t really know all that well what they’re doing so they run into problems, pivot, change course, and move on (hopefully) having learned something. I’m seeing more and more of this kind of thing amongst the developers that I know.
