I have a question for creators: Some poses won't actually POSE me when I'm on a pose stand or in my photo studio. Does this have to do with Priority or something? (I have no idea about this stuff,) AND how can I tell before I buy the pose because it makes blogging SO much harder. Thanks for your help! <3

Yes, priority. Just turn your ao off.
NeonSpiderfoot
Anke Of course I did do that. I am talking about certain poses not working when I am in my photo studio, or on a plain pose stand. Like they don't have the capacity to over ride it.

Anke I have only had this issue with a couple pose creators in my ten years of SL. Almost all other poses will over ride. It just makes it very hard to get into position & put items around, etc. to make the scene & if an item you are moving bumps you out of place, etc.
Anke
Yeah, it's priority. I don't think there is any way to fix it other than to have it re-load the animation periodically, or right out reupload it.
NeonSpiderfoot
I just would like to know how to tell if a pose is not capable of over riding because it's really frustrating & not worth investing in.

Anke Is there a reason why a creator wouldn't make a pose a higher priority? like is it harder? (again I don't know about making poses so if seems like a dumb question sorry.) because it seems like it would be better to just make it capable of being the highest priority to be safe?
Anke
It could be lack of knowledge, it could be that they specifically want you to be able to have other anims higher (ie hand poses, etc), it could be they expect them to be used in poseballs where nothing else will interfere.
Anke
It's literally just a number on the upload page which determines it, but I think very broadly you should discourage ever having everything being highest. I usually advocate for priority 4 (there is 1-4, 1 being lowest)
Anke
If you have an umbrella hand pose that will need to override other things, definitely 4. If it's just a pose, 3 will override almost everything else and is suitable
NeonSpiderfoot
ahh...ok, well I appreciate you explaining the reasons. It makes more sense. Thanks very much for taking the time! <3
NeonSpiderfoot
anke Oh I'm so silly! I just thought about it & I added the pose to an empty pose ball, so now I can move that around & rotate & reposition with no problem within the scene! Sometimes it takes my old brain a while to catch up lol

ha, as a counter point, i advocate AGAINST priority 4 unless you damn well need it, because it will fuck up anything that needs to override it. walks need it. stands really should NOT have it, and high priority AOs are part of the problem, they will override anything with a reasonable priority set.

the way to find out priorities for yourself is to demo them and see what they do with your current stuff- there's not really another way. but it also sounds like your pose stand may not be scripted quite right, it should be effectively turning your AO off when you sit on it. played from inventory has to deal with the priority system, but sitting really

shouldn't as much.

Allegory Thanks for explaining the priorities issue further. My pose stand, the Abraminations photo studio, it's old but it does over-ride AO, & I can usually wear ANY pose while in it. I've only had issue with a couple ones: they just won't Take. I got a blank pose ball & added those poses into it, that way I can still move myself around on it in edit :-)

NeonSpiderfoot : sommmetimes poses can take a really long time to load, too- so it could be that it isn't anything wrong with the pose, SL's just taking its dear sweet time loading it up to play! but in general, the whole pose/permissions system is really super weird and does some unexpected stuff sometimes.
Allegory
those poses could also be priority 1 though- that's maybe a lil bit TOO low for anything. they _can_ work, but they are too easy to be overridden by everything, 2's better.
