(I do hear people get used to the controller layout and tend to really like it, but even on PS4 if you get a mouse and keyboard and plug 'em into the system, you can use those if you want.)
(If you don't want to shell out for a keyboard but do want to chat, there's apparently a way to use a cellphone as a keyboard substitute, though I haven't tried to set it up.)
