I think the main things with him are Operation Babe Hunt and his jealousy of the protagonist, with added sexism in the female route. This occasionally made his s.link with Minako awkwardly out of step with the plot.
though you could argue that his pursuit of Chidori when she's obviously rebuffing him is a problem I guess if you were really looking for things to criticize him on?
There was also the part where he blabbed about SEES to a girl he barely knew (who turned out to be an enemy) and claimed he led the group, which backfired on him spectacularly shortly thereafter.
yeah junpei isn't nearly as obnoxious about the Casual Sexism as yosuke, has at least a melodramatic if justifiable reason for being an immature shit, and has probably one of the best scenes near the end of the game that's like, a total affirmation of his character development away from that
you, as the female protagonist, have a weird stalker who keeps taking pictures of you? Junpei not only doesn't minimize your concerns, he shares them! He understands why it's bothering you!
I guess maybe but the junpei complaint I always saw was usually coupled with "ugh I hate playing p3 in general" by people who were trying to in a pre-p3p world
the male protag naturally bonds with Ryuji, so approaches it primarily from the side of physical abuse of the athletes, and not the sexual abuse of the female students
or even sometimes when it DOES, like the hotel scene- it's clear ann completely trusts him AND the ryuji can be reasonably chill talking sex and relationships with her without being extra gross
A big problem with persona 4 is that almost all the character development (past the initial character development of the dungeons) happens in the S. Link with the protagonist. Which means that when it gets to a scene that's not part of the S. Link, none of that character development is reflected
Ann: If two girls had the exact same personality which one would you date Ryuji: Uh, the hotter one??? Ann: SO ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS LOOKS, I GET IT LOSER
b/c they're all fucking terrible at picking up girls anyway and get ridiculed and that's just a lot funnier than anything p4 was doing (b/c p4 drove it into the dirt, same with the "our girls can't cook" thing)
I saw someone theorizing recently that the reason p5 had older women as romance options was because they were acknowledging that their target audience had more adults in it than it used to
i feel back when the games first came out it was a bit more forgiveable, i know in 2008 my just-coming-out-of-the-closet ass really appreciated what p4 was doing b/c nothing else was doing it at the time but it's like in the same way as a gay teenager you like rent the first time seeing it
how you start off with an antagonist like kamoshida, deal with the themes and issues that raises, go full fucking in on exactly what kind of filthy shitbag he was, like that part of the game pulls ZERO punches
[2:40 PM] Sword: you know why the crowbar kept coming back, though. [2:40 PM] Sword: Like... deep down, we both know. [2:41 PM] Nao: apart from anime was a mistake? [2:41 PM] Sword: anime was not a mistake in the eyes of capitalism [2:41 PM] Nao: sighs [2:41 PM] Nao: yeah u rite [2:41 PM] Sword: the true mistake was capitalism all along
when i first saw it, i was really into the idea that it was about anne reclaiming her sexuality from this shitbag who'd victimized her, and presenting herself that was on her OWN terms
superorbital: so that the Otaku audience who still jokes about and ridicules anybody not straight or cis doesn't have to reexamine their own shitty actions and views
this is the same issue with a lot of Takumi hate in the fe fandom tbhRyuji: Uh, the hotter one???
Ann: SO ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS LOOKS, I GET IT LOSER
lowhighlights regardless, so youbut it's like in the same way as a gay teenager you like rent the first time seeing it
heel turned like it did

pour one out for p2 where the gay route is the one the developers considered to be the most canon
