bladeosaurus
Friends I am looking for dystopias with male/male romance.
bladeosaurus
In the vein of Divergent just not straight. Or, yanno Aoi no Kusabi but less outright porn.
bladeosaurus
I WOULD LIKE IT TO NOT BE FIRST PERSON but I know that's really hard when it comes to YAish stuff.
bladeosaurus
BONUS POINTS FOR AUTHORS THAT AREN'T WHITE MALES because god i'm tired.
ltmutiny
Oh, hmmm
bladeosaurus
No. 6 is another example of a thing I would like to read.
bladeosaurus
will also take recs for things other than books.
ltmutiny
I can think of one title I've ordered, but don't know the name off the top of my head (I also don't.....know how good it is, fair warning)
ltmutiny
Which is to say this comment is unhelpful until I can go look at the shelves again
bladeosaurus
That's ok, I will take all the things
ltmutiny
m/m romance in the dystopia genre is definitely not a well-tread field. (At least not in YA)
bladeosaurus
I MEAN IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE YA. but male/male dystopia is generally hard to find
ltmutiny
Well no!! But in my case that's largely the stuff I would know to rec
bladeosaurus
I'm also a YA person, and I really enjoy the worldbuilding in Divergent, I just don't care about the protag.
MOVED
gently places this here
ltmutiny
Okay I found it:
The Balance by Neal Wooten | Bold Strokes Books
ltmutiny
The cover is horrible and unfortunately the author is white but.
bladeosaurus
MOVED
: thank u friend
MOVED
don't thank me thank goodreads
bladeosaurus
ltmutiny
: this sounds very no 6-y
bladeosaurus
i will check it out
bladeosaurus
ltmutiny
: the author is white and straight, so i will wait for ur opinion before buying it.
ltmutiny
OH shit is he......ugh, I didn't think to check, I was just like M/M DYSTOPIA
ltmutiny
if we still have it on our shelves I can do a quick readthrough (I might have gotten rid of it because it wasn't going out well)
bladeosaurus
Yeah, his goodreads blurb say he lives with his wife and kids.
ltmutiny
ahhhhh
ltmutiny
we still have a copy so I'll skim through and let you know
bladeosaurus
thank uuu
comfy drow cave
I could link you where to read no6
comfy drow cave
Uhh I haven't read it yet but I think Tim Floreen's Willful Machines is a dystopia
comfy drow cave
dungeon fey
read it, confirm?
ltmutiny
OH! can actually recommend this book from that goodreads list. (he's still white, but definitely actually gay and I've heard lots of good things about him and the book)
dungeon fey
Willful Machines is sssorta dystopia. Robot uprising and stuff tho so pretty cute
bladeosaurus
comfy drow cave
: I READ IT the novel translations and the manga up to chapter 40iiish, tho i'll probs reread the manga and catch up
bladeosaurus
will look into Willful Machines
bladeosaurus
ltmutiny
: i have that one in my WANT TO READ list :UUU
ltmutiny
I really need to read it, I just heard him talk on a panel recently
ltmutiny
(and he was great)
only goes to 11
It's not totally Divergent dystopian but "We Are the Ants" has a gay kid who is visited by aliens and given the opportunity to save or destroy the world. "More Than This" by Patrick Ness is wake up horror dystopia but the m/m is before shit goes down. Both are depressing. :,D
only goes to 11
ALSO I would recommend "More Happy Than Not" which is "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" bit with a gay Latino lead
ltmutiny
More Happy Than Not is so great
ltmutiny
(one thing I was going to say was "if only Adam Silvera wrote dystopia")
bladeosaurus
YASSS I will check all of these out
only goes to 11
If only Benjamin Alire Saenz wrote dystopian, I would love more from him and Silvera
ltmutiny
Him too!! But it seems more likely for Silvera
ltmutiny
by a little bit
ltmutiny
(mostly because he wrote More Happy Than Not)
only goes to 11
I totally forgot Grasshopper Jungle which is like mutant bugs invade but bi protagonist more concerned with awkward boners
