I've always grown up calling my friend's parents Mr/Mrs/Ms -- so I found it a slight adjustment whenever I'd learn/use their first names. #justperkythoughts

perky : Same for my family. It's a respecting your elders type thing. It was weird to us at first if they wanted to be addressed by their first name. Same goes for my parents' friends. If they were visiting it was always "Hello, Mr/Mrs" whoever and just considered a common courtesy.

After reaching adulthood first names are fine. We'd go with whatever everyone is most comfortable with.

In the South, it was Mr./Mrs. whatever; In Hawaii, it's Aunty/Uncle to your elders - I like the Hawaii way better!

KitchenBuddy : Very true! My mom is half Hawaiian and AK Native (they do same way as well). ALL the Aunties and Uncles. (LOL)
