In all honesty I don't really have an opinion on the whole casting thing. It just feels like they stapled together a sci fi summer flick with a recognizable pop culture title and ScarJo has some pull for the audience they're after for it so hey yeah whatever
(There is something to be said about the casting just a bit though - just having ScarJo and leaving well enough alone would be one thing. The end revelation of "well you were Japanese once" is decidedly probably the single most tone deaf thing they could have done.)

I think the Robocop reboot had thematically more going for it that was better executed than this.
That's a super low bar.
