In my niece's pasture today. Two days ago she posted a small black bear gallivanting through the alfalfa, having a ball just running in circles, pouncing and hiding and rolling in the alfalfa. it was video so I could not figure out how to share.

What's odd to me is she lives so much closer to Red River Valley than to the North Woods - I don't think of that area having bears and moose which are more common in the North Woods where I grew up.

Maybe they have to venture further for food?

I wouldn't think so. The issue that it's more open. Trees are in windbreaks, not forests.

Bear two days ago. She's right at the edge of the prairie..so she still has some trees... but after that it's pretty much flat prairie forever

So, they seem to be about 20 miles further west than used to be their area
