[Night in the woods] I don't understand the entire final act

I understand that there was a death cult in there somewhere and the monster is a metaphor for depression or whateveer

but I'm not sure how that connects with the dreams

I was a little disappointed that Mae's big reason for ditching college was massively crushing depression

it's a good reason I guess but I was expecting something else

I'm not sure it was entirely a depression thing. She seemed to have gone through some sort of serious dissociative event or something?

But yeah the final act is pretty confusing

yeah, she's def more seriously mentally ill than depressed, unfortunately

it might be HOW the black goat/other gods contacted her at all

the violence thing was pretty shocking

like it didn't take much door her to become scary and threatening

It's that and can also be seen as the decay brought on by the rapid social upheaval capitalism brings to rural life and the dilemma to either embrace what that darkness offers to save your way of life

Or to rely on each other and walk warily into an uncertain future

I like the sound of that
