I had to give up on a book I was reading. 5 days in and only 24% of the book read. I blamed it on the poor formatting of the electronic galley I received. There was not one single paragraph break in the entire 300 plus pages. I kept getting lost.

So, I wrote a note to the publisher apologizing for not being able to finish the book to review it...but explained the failed formatting in the Adobe file made it too hard and that I would check it out of the library after it was published.... and they wrote back.

It is not supposed to have any paragraph breaks. 324 pages of unbroken text. So, no, I will not be looking for it at the library.

OMG, I would have given up on that too. That's insane.

Omg what.

How do you NOT have paragraph breaks?!

I couldn't begin to imagine that, reading Hubert Selby Jr.'s novels was difficult because he wrote by ear instead of with punctuation. He had plenty of paragraphs though.

Yeah, I think of myself as an adventurous reader. I mean, I read levon, the novel written backwards and loved it. I have read plenty of experimental fiction, but this was just too hard on my eyes.

It's a translation from Chinese. by Wu He, called Remains of Life and some of it was very acerbic and funny...and there was real humanity in the writing...but I need paragraphs. Give me paragraphs!
