found my surge protector power bar failed today. Also caused the battery on the UPS to be drained. Just spend the evening rewiring up the iMac and peripherals

yep, don't combine the two...

I suppose you don't need to protect the UPS.

can't remember what the instructions say about how to not use the combination, but it seems that some pretty major problems can happen. I think merely drawing down the battery is a minor problem. Understand it can do things like short the battery (doesn't make sense to me) or something.

Time to get a new power bar that's also a surge protector
