I forgot the amazing and terrible thing that happened yesterday at my cousin's party.

So my cousin Vickie last night invited my family to her house in Boston to say goodbye to a cousin who was visiting up from Florida, who I hadn't seen in 15 years

Vickie lives in a suuuuper nice neighborhood in Boston and is close friends with a lot of her neighbors

So it's me, Bad Aunt, and Neighbor who are all sitting on a couch together, and we don't know much about the Neighbor other than that she is wealthy, opinionated, Republican and has a dog. And we're trying to tread lightly when discussing politics but there seems to be a genuine, intelligent discussion going on between Bad Aunt and Neighbor

No name-calling, actual respect of the other person's beliefs, pretty cool all around

Until Bad Aunt calls Trump a Nazi and the greatest exchange I've ever heard in my life takes place;

Neighbor: Don't use that word.

Bad Aunt: What word?

Neighbor: Nazi.

Bad Aunt: I know it's a little extreme, but in the context of Trump's policies it really looks like there's an affiliation between that time in Germany's history and-

Neighbor: I'm German and that word offends me

Bad Aunt: ...But I'm Jewish.

Neighbor: That doesn't give you the right to call other people Nazis

Bad Aunt: But there were. Nazis. They actually. Existed.

Neighbor: Most Germans weren't Nazis, you know

It was fucking glorious. I can't. What?

sigh, it's true that most germans weren't nazis and there's a stigma about that because people just associate germany with nazis, but that is not what your aunt was saying at all

at least if it turns out she's the type to complain about political correctness you can turn her hypocrisy back on her?
