[Meme] Character languages?

Eyebot
WELL.

Eyebot
Let's go with the Spira lot.

Eyebot
All of them speak Standard/the common tongue (English), obviously. All speak it as a first language barring Apache and Tyki, who are both Jyllandi.

Eyebot
Same is probably true of Gladiolus, but idk if he learned Standard alongside Jyllandi or not, I haven't decided.

Eyebot
Those not from there who speak it anyway are Ienzo, who is learning/not fluent, Aizen who is better than Ienzo but not 100% and Lumi, who retains his language specialist

Eyebot
status thanks to Etro.

Eyebot
As such, he also knows Ancient, which Aizen also made an effort to learn, and Al Bhed, which is the second most widely spoken language on the lowerworld.

Eyebot
Most of the natives have a degree of understanding when it comes to Al Bhed, because it's taught in schools, though some made the effort to up their fluency.

Eyebot
Ienzo, Aizen and Even are some of these. Grimmjow and Gin are first-language fluent in Al Bhed also, because of their parentage.

Eyebot
Additionally, Ienzo is in the process of learning a moribund language, Old Rozarrian, which is no longer spoken as a first language by modern generations. This is because Ulquiorra is helping him.

Eyebot
Because of its close relationship to Old Nabradian, he knows some of that too, as do Aizen and Lumi.

Eyebot
Some of the Mist Swordsmen also speak Old Nabradian, because their town is one of the last strongholds for the tongue, especially after the destruction of Nabudis.

Eyebot
I daresay Lumi has the Etro-given ability to also speak Ishvalan, but it's unlikely to come up.

Eyebot
Since Lumi is originally not of that world, it's worth noting that many if the languages he used to speak in his own world are now useless.

Eyebot
This includes Finnish, which he speaks perfectly. Old Nabradian is essentially Japanese, so that's still useful.

Eyebot
Incidentally, the Jylland natives are unlikely to have any ability with Al Bhed at all. While most Spiran kids do a mandatory 3 or 4 years of it in school, they do not.

Eyebot
Apache, as such, cannot speak a word of it.

Eyebot
People like Luppi and so on probably know the same amount as I remember of French from my schooldays, but how useful it is to know 1-20, hello, pencilcase and 'the mouse is under the table' is up for debate.

Eyebot
Ancient, incidentally, or Cetran, is probably an approximation of Latin.

Eyebot
Nobody speaks it as a language any more, but bits have leaked into other languages and it clings on in the form of scientific names, spells and such.

Eyebot
Its last hurrah was in some locales on Pulse, prior to the hell it became, and it shows in some of the refugees who moved from there to Jylland when the fall happened.

Eyebot
Such as in the names of the ruling/upper classes of Insomnia.

Nika
... Insomnia =D

Manateehugs
Yay being multilingual!
