So anyway go тo вread got me a cookbook called Good & Cheap: Eating Well on $4 A Day
Walker
it's specifically four dollars a day because that is what the food stamp program does
Walker
also, any time someone buys a new copy of the book, they donate a matching copy to a family in need
Walker
anyway there's a recipe in there that made me go 'wow, i wanna make this' and that almost never happens
Walker
corn broth as a soup base made by boiling actual corn cobs
Walker
like. you cut the kernels off the cobs, and then you boil the cobs in water with a bay leaf to make the stock and then you add in the kernels and other ingredients to make a corn soup
Guardian Bear J
... That actually sounds pretty darn good. >_>

Another thing I like about the recipe is that all you have to do to make the soup vegan is...not cook the vegetables in butter
Walker
also every recipe has a note that shows how much the entire dish costs to make and the cost per serving
Walker
like, the corn soup is $5 total and $1.25 per serving
