Vivienne was a homemaker mostly- she did a lot of sewing, but she taught the kids how to do most of the housework (cleaning, cooking, gardening) as soon as they could. She really liked embroidery as a hobby,

and she picked up a lot of science fiction novels and comics

She's a huge fan of Frankenstein

Dana and Evelyn got her into the superman comic books, though she's a little more partial to Batman and the Flash. She's also a gifted teacher and does knitting to relax.

She's not an actual teacher, but she would be very good at it. She did most of the teaching for Virgil to understand and use sign language, as well as teaching it to his father, sisters, and cousin.

Ah, okay! Did she already know sign language? Or did she learn it and then teach it?

hmmm... I'd say she probably likes signing "songs" back and forth with the kids (lyrics or poetry with some extra fourishes)

Nonverbal communication is a huge thing in their household, even if Virgil is the only one of who needs to really use it

Vivienne really cares about her kids, and even if Rerich was a questionable person and father, (he pushed off learning sign language and accepting that Virgil couldn't speak)

they were pretty open to adapting what he needed, as their first born

He's got three triplet sisters that are six years younger than him and his older cousin Damien was adopted when he was 8 and Virgil was 6

Virgil gets along real well with his sisters! he always has. They tend to try and push him out of his comfort zone though, and he has always been a little unnecessarily distant with his problems

Damien has always been a hard-headed, calculating brute that beat Virgil up a lot and used him as a vehicle to get what he wanted without confidence.

The sisters and Damien don't really interact. He's more like a long-term guest than a family member as far as they're concerned

I'm glad that the sisters are a positive, for the most part, that stinks about Damien! Do their parents know what Damien does?

they don't know about some things, like the stealing, but they know he beat Virgil a lot and Vivienne got used to cleaning him up and comforting after fights, but Rerich

didn't allow anyone to step in, saying Virgil had to man up and fight his own battles

even after Damien carved a slur into Virgil's back with a knife when he was 13. He still has the scars

there's a reason Virgil eventually couldn't take it anymore and killed him, after he had a vocal surgery and Damien kicked him in the throat
