I know certain people are going to disagree with me but I feel the pacing of the first Volume was very spot on. Not a lot of time was wasted. It felt like every second was spent with a purpose. Yes the cast
being thrust off into this world of fighting super mega death monsters at only seventeen years of age is pretty out there but each character has a reason for their combat backgrounds at least in the main four
He sneaks into the academy by falsifying documents (iirc it's been hours) but this is completely ignored of any repercussions because he's being bullied.
Flash served as nothing but a school bully for Peter but grew as a character over time. Not once throughout the three volumes have I seen any development with Cardin or his group and that's annoying because
Moving right along, I already said this before but Pyrrha Nikos harkens back to my reminiscing of Sazh Katzroy. Awesomely written characters hampered by the writing.
I really do just dislike the writing surrounding him and his "development" over the seasons, which I entirely blame on the people involved, but it's easier for me to just say "GET REKT JAUNE".
JNPR's development in general is weird because that entire team was not even supposed to be second string during the initial writing. They were like... I think they said "8th string" or something like that.
Honestly I would have liked this kind of fight to come later. We've got a lot of characterization for Weiss (I guess) this early but not so much for Blake. Using a big angsty argument for character
Also, this is a super big drama topic to touch so I won't go deep into it but having Jessica Nigri voice the sultry dressing/sounding main baddie? Really?
From a writing standpoint, there is nothing wrong with touching iffy material. What is wrong is using it just to go "WE REALLY WANT YOU TO HATE THIS GUY"
Hmm, that does change things around a bit. Still think they should've left the role to lesser known voice actors/actresses to start a career but it's fine I guess.
Cinder's whole "must become the Fall Maiden" thing? the WHOLE Maiden thing? implemented between volumes 2 and 3. as in. they had some vague idea of the concept of the four maidens, but no plot links.
but no seriously the fact that Cinder's side of things and her whole crew and their whole plan came together and she still (technically) "won" at the end, flies in the face of the writers flying by --
The anti-Weiss song because that is not part of Pyrrha's personality, and Jaune somehow being the only person who noticed her beyond her fame when you have an entire N and R in that team who did
I don't dislike all the shippy songs. "Boop" is cute as fuck even if the fandom is divided on whether to ship Ren and Nora like that (but I can see it either way)
I have seen Nice Guys work with Strong Females. You can make those tropes/cliches/whatever you want to call them work. But you do not ruin characterization. You strengthen it.
Like let's look at Ruby for example. Her status as a leader, while faulty because everyone has flaws, is something she lives up to and even tries to get Jaune to live up to. Big shoes but she fills them.
OR they'll actually do solid writing and have him losing Pyrrha make him finally wake the fuck up. I doubt it and I hate them using best girl to springboard another character's development but I'm in this
Note I'm tossing out there. If I do pick up Pyrrha, I'm probably going to pull her from Volume 3's finale. Just after being shot. Not quite dead, but just before she dies.
Also, for the sake of simplicity I'd have that be her last thought but still have Cinder having Maiden ganked her. I don't feel like toying around with something I know nothing about yet.
I want to see just how much freedom i have. I'm not going to deviate from Pyrrha's core attributes but the freedom of RP should allow me to deviate a bit from some of the less-than-stellar writing choices
it's good in some ways but in others you hit a brick wall. on the plus side, nobody seems to be being enabled in tanagura for reisen so fingers crossed
"He's always drunk!"
