who quits their job over a big tax refund?? That just seems retarded to me....
Nimil
teenagers who've never had a job before
Acwatr
Łůċĩ † Şησω : retarded isn't a great word, btw, but I agree it's thick

Łůċĩ † Şησω
I didn't mean it that way and since I have disabled family members I NEVER say it THAT way. And even still teenagers aren't the only people that work fast food anymore. No matter where you live
Łůċĩ † Şησω
goes to show though if it IS aimed at teens, that parents are doing shit jobs at teaching their kids things about life these days.
Łůċĩ † Şησω
it is, but it's also not a job's responsibility. When I was growing up my mom worked two and three jobs but she taught me the things I needed to know to be an adult and get through life
❥ Clem
Łůċĩ † Şησω : it doesn't seem like she did a very good job at teaching you how to be respectful of people and not use terms like the one you just did.
❥ Clem
And btw, I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt after reading this until I went and read your latest Plurk.
Acwatr
Sorry, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I just thought I'd let you know it wasn't the best term to use, although I agreed with the sentiment

Wow
Łůċĩ † Şησω
quite frankly my plurk is exactly for this reason, and I don't really care WHAT you or anyone else give the benefit of doubt to. See unlike everyone else I don't care and I'm over it.
Łůċĩ † Şησω
Though I'm sure my down syndrome cousin would look at most people on plurk and be like dude you're retarded.

Saying you can get away with calling people "retarded" because you have differently-abled family members is like saying you can get away with saying the n-word because you have black friends. It doesn't work.
Other Autumn 🍂
It's a derogatory term that, in the year 2016, is completely tactless, classless, and unacceptable.

Saff
Other Autumn 🍂 : this, so much. I can call my sister deragatory terms because she's disabled and is fine with it. Doesn't mean in any world I can call another disabled person it
Other Autumn 🍂
And surely, you wouldn't use those terms solely to disparage someone who is not disabled.
Acwatr
Saff can call me cripple (I'd prefer if she'd use my first name though), but wouldn't dream of calling anyone else that

When I was a kid I used to say things were retarded all the time, didn't mean anything by it.
Bebe ✨Sparkle
But, back to the point, when I was a student, I was getting 2k back in taxes.. When you compare that to 150 dollar check from McDonald's it's a huge deal. So I can see why people would quit
Bebe ✨Sparkle
Well, teens would quit I mean.. It's your first job, so you make money, and you make just enough to start doing your own taxes.. And your working your butt off for a tiny check not getting any free time
Bebe ✨Sparkle
Between work and school, then your first tax check comes in that is 10x what you get paid.. Kids think they don't have to work for months
Bebe ✨Sparkle
Plus, it's getting ready to be summer vacation in a little bit.. Spring break, etc..
Bebe ✨Sparkle
But they don't know how to manage money as well as they think and blow it in 2 seconds at the mall.
MaryTeodosio
It's good that they do this, this is really a win-win. They don't have to invest thousands of dollars in a new employee and the employee benefits by maintaining a consistent work history.

Other Autumn 🍂
I think a lot of us used words like "retarded" and "gay" as kids. But part of being an adult is knowing that it's pretty gross to use terms like that.
But, I do agree that it is good that the employer posted
Other Autumn 🍂
that notice. As a teenager, I was plenty book-smart, but didn't have a whole lot of common sense. I didn't even know I would have to file my taxes when I started working, let alone that I'd get a refund rofl
Other Autumn 🍂
And honestly, even though the foodservice workforce is not predominantly teenagers nowadays, there are also plenty of grown adults who don't really understand how things like that work, either.

Paypabak: When I worked fast food, I was also going to school, and was getting a ton of money back in taxes from claiming my college expenses.
