I lost control of my own plurk to a discussion that's better than what I had to offer anyway but I STILL WANNA TALK ABOUT THE THING so a brief plurk about Thalassa Gramarye.
Every conversation you have with her as Lamiroir is about Machi, and even those don't tell you much about their relationship besides "I view him as my own son"
And, like. She lies to protect him once, but the entire end of AJ is such a mess that we never REALLY find out how their relationship works, let alone how it works (or if it does) post-Lamiroir
So we get the idea that Thalassa is supposed to be a very warm, loving figure, but we only really ever get her SAYING she loves various people, but never.... acting it out on screen except for the
The main thing I got out of Turnabout Serenade about their relationship is that she kind of.... IDK how to describe it. She treats Machi like he's younger than fourteen on several occasions.
And I realise part of it is likely that she's not actually Machi's parent--they've never really had to negotiate this kind of situation before, and she probably has no idea what to do about it
In terms of actual parental work, she raised Trucy for a handful of years, then found Machi (or Machi found her) in Borginia with no memory of Trucy at all.
I'm aggravated because I can't even extrapolate on this without making some huge assumptions. Because Lamiroir--Thalassa, whatever... like I said, we only ever see her through the filter of her reltionships.
i'm sorry for taking over your plurk OTL
