care a full day after the orders came in to move him down to the pediatric unit. Now first day out of intensive care there is a battle amongst the surgical staff.
The trauma surgeon came in and said they needed to scope Plurk babies intestinal region. They took him down an were prepping for surgery when the head of pediatric surgery came in
and put the brakes on the procedure stating that the baby is not stable enough for surgery. The head of the surgical department had to be called in while we waited.
In the meantime the anesthesiologist and old friend came in the room and tells us if anyone but the pediatric surgeon comes in to tell them to fuck off.
You would think that would be enough weirdness for one day, right? Wrong. At around 10 this evening a NICU nurse came in and said she heard that there maybe a procedure in the morning.

: It was a much better day today. I actually asked about that today, not sure I got a clear answer as to why the pediatrician hasn't been kept in the loop.

: There's way too much ego in medicine. Since they aren't really doing anything for him, I'm pressuring his mom to bust him out of there tomorrow.
agrees with you that a lot of these surgeons are far too ego-driven & it results in unnecessary heartache & frustration for patients and their families.

As if this whole thing wasn't stressful enough!
