INTRODUCTION/ABOUT ME

FossilTattoo
Even though I dislike talking about myself when not asked anything, screw it. I'm Ronnie.

Moved To...

FossilTattoo
I'm 35, confused about a lot of things, and more in charge than anyone respects.

FossilTattoo
Artist in many/any medium, animator, sometimes writer, propmaker, tailor, whatever. You name it. Literally.

FossilTattoo
I find it difficult to do these 'talk about yourself' memes, but I'm literally forcing myself to right now.

FossilTattoo
In
I play this guy.
Sometimes it's fun, others, it's a lot of "why am I here again?"

FossilTattoo
To answer the latter, I literally joined RC because my girl AngelHangover mods/plays/spends most of her time there.

FossilTattoo
(Heh. Thanks.
)

Yeah man your awesome!

Helping with intro! Your also a pleasure to talk to. Insightful and knowledgeable. great for conversations and discussions

: highfives and hugs you bothTo continue, I'm writing this very stream-of-consciousness, vomiting it out as soon as it hits my brain.

FossilTattoo
I build stuff. For the moment, mostly Ghostbuster props. p.twimg.com/Ax23Pr9CAAIZ2A-.jpg:large

FossilTattoo
That's a shamelessly nerdy, mostly enjoyable charity thing I do when it's warm enough.

FossilTattoo
But though most people nowadays/around here affiliate me with Ghostbuster stuff, there's a lot more to me.

FossilTattoo
For whom it may concern.

FossilTattoo
Been kind of a big fish in the small Furry pond for a while, selling art and doing conventions.

FossilTattoo
Lately enjoying a disconnect from it all, and perhaps subsequently causing my own crisis. I've been influential in the past; I felt-- potent. Now, not so much.

FossilTattoo
Which perhaps is why I've also got way more interested in the whole D/s-BDSM scene, to some degree. About all that's come of that is me picking my own brain and trying to learn WHY I feel that way.

FossilTattoo
Condensed; I'd be a helluva Dom if I could only figure out why.

FossilTattoo
Moving on. I like to learn/absorb/read, and know I don't do it enough.

FossilTattoo
Oh, right. I was AirForce for a stint, working on these.

FossilTattoo
I was what is known as a 'Crew Chief' on the C-130 refueling airframe. It was ok as a job, but the endless military BS that permeated it was what made me rather miserable the entire time.

FossilTattoo
In a few more posts, I'm gonna ask any questions. But not yet.

FossilTattoo
johnup4664: Just saw this-- Hi there.

FossilTattoo
A fan of classy things, I used to work here; a costume rental business in New York.

FossilTattoo
Became knowledgeable of period attire, Medieval, Renaissance, 18th Century, all the way up to my personal favorite, Victorian.

FossilTattoo
I'm kind of a most-of-the-time dandy, so it's been remarked. I prefer to dress nicely, which is sometimes distinguished, usually unintentionally alienating.

FossilTattoo
Honestly I much prefer to answer questions than prattle on about myself. SO. For anyone here who even wants to know anything, please, fire away. Any questions?

Moved To...
Favorite places to eat?

FossilTattoo
Hmm-- I do like seafood predominantly these days, and if I ate out regularly, it'd be loads of mahi mahi or salmon or tilapia. Fish is lighter and better for me than loads of beef...

FossilTattoo
Though I will kill some Chili's or Outback too.

Moved To...
Seafood is the best!

FossilTattoo
I don't even have a favorite food anymore- no idea where it went.

FossilTattoo
Oh, right, the local sushi place, of course. Good prices, totally hits the spot.

FossilTattoo
And YES. Seafood IS.

FossilTattoo
Thank you, btw.

Moved To...
why saying thanks?

Moved To...
I LOVE SEAFOOD!

FossilTattoo
For responding! It's appreciated.

Moved To...
so i understand. oh lol NP

Moved To...
My questions are usually uninteresting. Like favorite book. or favorite childhood memory or worse self inflicted injury

Moved To...
which I am phrasing as a question

FossilTattoo
Favorite books... Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are. Crichton's Jurassic Park. Garcia's Anonymous Rex trilogy.

FossilTattoo
Favorite childhood memory: Birthday party at Showbiz Pizza when I was like, 5.

FossilTattoo
Worst self-inflicted injury- it's a two-parter.

FossilTattoo
I was at a skating rink, rolling around, and I did that thing where you squat down on old quad skates, and push yourself along with your hands-

FossilTattoo
And I rolled over my own left forearm like a speedbump.

Moved To...
O.O

FossilTattoo
It was a compound fracture that X-rays showed somehow GELLED the bone, instead of breaking it.

FossilTattoo
So they put me in a cast. I was in it for a while.

FossilTattoo
One morning, I was waking up, on my stomach, and I did a push-up to get out of bed, still groggy.

FossilTattoo
My arm compacted in the cast.

FossilTattoo
They cut the cast open and stretched it back out.

FossilTattoo
Put a new cast on it, and I was more cautious.

Moved To...
sounds scary

Moved To...
sounds scary

FossilTattoo
It was, but in hindsight, that's the only bone I've ever damaged.

FossilTattoo
Thus far.

Moved To...
I personally have never broken a bone

FossilTattoo
It's interesting. I remember how it feels, and ALMOST want it to happen again so I can analyze it instead of just wanting it to stop.

Moved To...
yeah I can't relate lol but sounds cool

FossilTattoo
(I've gotten to a place where I like the idea of "exploring sensations" that was introduced in the original Hellraiser movie)

Moved To...
never saw that movie but i did love the feeling of getting things pierced and tattooed so I understand. I need to get my next tattoo still. been too busy

Moved To...
so i got cha

FossilTattoo
nod

FossilTattoo
Since this is my intro thread, I feel like going on a little more.

FossilTattoo
I collect lots of soundtracks to movies. Used to be a moderate movie buff, but not as much now.

FossilTattoo
Though I do find my favorite genre is the artsier films, or the ones that most consider 'head' movies.

FossilTattoo
Being John Malkovich, The Truman Show, Dark City, the first Matrix, Inception.

FossilTattoo
I haven't yet brought myself to watch "Enter The Void" yet... but I want to.

FossilTattoo
The reason I haven't yet, is because of the way I prefer to watch cinema. I like to really immerse myself in it, because it's a piece of art;

FossilTattoo
and the director (any good director) has EVERYTHING in the movie for a reason. I want to see, hear, and feel every subtlety therein... and that is the catch-22.

FossilTattoo
When I do this, I often suffer from a 'comedown' right after watching a movie for the first time. You see, for the past two hours, I was not here. I was THERE.

FossilTattoo
And movies have this bad habit of ENDING abruptly. It leaves me disoriented and sometimes sad. It might sound emo, but I like movies that don't always end perfectly-

FossilTattoo
because the disconnect isn't as stark when I go back to my own life. When it's an unsure or sad ending, it's easier to transition back.

FossilTattoo
When it's all "yay, happy ending!" it just ends and the lights go back up, and I have to return to my own life, which is still in progress.

FossilTattoo
Indeed, this probably helps shape my growing disdain for fantasy in general. I think a big part of me just wants to become the things I dream of, and stop wasting energy dreaming of it.

FossilTattoo
I have seen people escape into fantasies, and it always baffled me. Why not work towards making it real? To hell with the consequences.

FossilTattoo
Honestly? Many of the aforementioned movies up there.

FossilTattoo
I like them for the "breaking out from imprisonment" vibe they have.

FossilTattoo
Transcending.

FossilTattoo
When The Truman Show, Dark City, and The Matrix all came out very near each other, I was spooked and convinced something was wrong.

FossilTattoo
This was back when I was in college.

FossilTattoo
I still feel that way, but of course, who can know what to do?

FossilTattoo
Honorable mentions are Akira (partly for the story, mostly for the staggering technical aspects of its' production, and for it breaking so many boundaries for 198

FossilTattoo
...1988

FossilTattoo
What the hell

FossilTattoo
I liked the old cult classic "Dark Star" as well, because even if it looks like a B-movie, if the story's good, I'm sold.

FossilTattoo
There are many very pretty modern films I can't bring myself to watch, because I can already tell their stories are shit.

FossilTattoo
Loved the director's cut of Donnie Darko. Fight Club as well.

FossilTattoo
Not for the violence or machismo, but for the take on 'help groups'. It's all been tempting.

FossilTattoo
Another favorite: The Lawnmower Man.

FossilTattoo
johnup4664: Do you see a pattern?

FossilTattoo
I was, to a small degree, put down a bit in younger years, and have never quite gotten back at anyone. But I'm coming to terms with the fact that I may never get to, nor should I desire to.

FossilTattoo
So movies like these do speak to me.

FossilTattoo
And as mentioned, I immerse myself into them, so seeing them get theirs is more than a little exciting. But then these movies end.

FossilTattoo
Thank you for asking, btw.

FossilTattoo
I like "The Wall" okay, but it's TOO easy to say 'that's so me', moreover I most definitely haven't ever lived that excessively. Sure, it's been tempting, but I can't back that up and say I've done similar.

FossilTattoo
Music: I have a full 300 GB harddrive of tunes, and I need to upgrade to a 2TB drive, because I've got more on another drive, just waiting to join it's kin.

FossilTattoo
I'm pretty eclectic, musically. Usually I listen to chill, downtempo stuff, but I've got rock, old rap, country, blues, swing, neo-soul, jazz, new age, voodoo (yes, really), you name it.

FossilTattoo
I play harmonica, and need to pick up this guitar and practice, as I'm below-novice level.

FossilTattoo
What else, what else.

Moved To...
hobbies, job, music, movies, I think you got the basics

Moved To...
childhood stuff?

FossilTattoo
Heh. How much do you wanna know about that?

FossilTattoo
I don't mind talking about it, but it's pretty wild.

Moved To...
IDK! I'm just thinking.

FossilTattoo

FossilTattoo
I was in gifted classes all throughout childhood. Advanced reading, writing, art, etc.

Moved To...
Thats cool. where you a bully as a kid?

FossilTattoo
I a bully? Hah, hardly. I was bullied.

FossilTattoo
I was the urkel of my middleschool.

Moved To...
same lol

Moved To...
just curious. its amazing how many people i know who were the bullies.

FossilTattoo
I didn't dress like a nerd, but I guess since I didn't dress traditionally cool, I was uncool. Now I know cool is relative.

Moved To...
yeah i mean i was social awful. still am but it was worse then. lol

FossilTattoo
I was a boyscout. Worked on getting my Eagle scout, but then the troop just DISBANDED one day.

FossilTattoo
It just wasn't there anymore.

Moved To...
weird. how close were you to eagle?

FossilTattoo
I don't even know. It was a long time ago. My father helped me with my pinewood derby car. I won "best design"

Odie
Wow! I thought I was the only one that liked the Matrix. The third one was a bit disappointing but I liked them all in a set. You sound a lot like me as far as music is concerned. I have a lot too. Anything

Odie
really goes.

FossilTattoo
I liked the "THIS IS COMPLETELY NEW" vibe of the first Matrix.

FossilTattoo
Such a Freshness to it. Like a blast of sea spray.

FossilTattoo
Also, hi there.

Odie
YAY! I'm glad you thought the same thing. It was one of the most memorable films for me.

Odie
Hi there!

Odie
Got a quick question. I noticed in one of your plurks that you were in the market for dune buggies or some sort of recreational vehicle. Are you into building them or are you just looking?

FossilTattoo
In this instance... I'm looking for an inexpensive classic Beetle that's not a WRECK, but isn't pristine, to convert to a baja bug.

FossilTattoo
As soon as I learn to weld (which is a thing I want to learn badly), I will be making strides to build something. For now, though, a bug's what I'm after.

FossilTattoo
I know bugs. They're simple and easy to work on.

FossilTattoo
I'd like to convert something like this:

FossilTattoo
Into something in the realm of this:

Odie
Ah, okay. Oh yes, I prefer them myself. I've done a lot of work on them before with my dad and the opposing 4 engines are a lot easier to work on than the SOHC or the DOHC types. I had a 1867CC VW engine 1974

Odie
Super Beetle and I wish my dad had kept it when I had joined the Navy.

Odie
It wasn't in perfect shape body wise but it wasn't Flintstone bad in the cabin either. At least it wasn't rusted out. The fenders were held on my bungie cords.

Odie
I was in the process of restoring it.

FossilTattoo
Man. Whenever I get one, all 4 of my fenders will be replaced with baja-style fiberglass ones.

Odie
Sweet! They're lighter and less prone to rusting. I'll see if I can find any. I'll talk to a few friends to see if they can help.

FossilTattoo
I HAD a bug before I went off to the AF; I was gonna restore it too. Bought it for 200 bucks, couldn't get the engine to turn. Body was in good shape, and had no idea at the time what to do.

FossilTattoo
Came back a couple years later, the people who'd been keeping it for me sold it out from under me.

FossilTattoo
I ate the loss.

Odie
Yep, I know that feeling.

Odie
That's exactly what my dad did.

Odie
I was pissed too.

FossilTattoo
And hey, thank you! I'd appreciate that.

FossilTattoo
I'm gonna be cutting the rear engine compartment bottom off, as is common with baja.

FossilTattoo
Adding the big pipe bumper.

Odie
No problem! I'm a gearhead myself so I like doing this kind of thing. We're looking for a truck ourselves. Nothing fancy but definitely looking for a project so we'll add the VW to the list.

Odie
YAY! That'll make it sturdy.

FossilTattoo
I'm a would-be gearhead. I deeply regret the most mechanical thing I've ever done aside from propmaking is working on C-130s.

FossilTattoo
I want to build my own motorcycle someday, ultimately.

FossilTattoo
As for the bug.. I wanna add one of
(these) to the interior. The "Unique Custom Dash" from Glass Action.

Odie
Now, that's a great project.

FossilTattoo
Oh, man. I wanna make something really weird. I'm sick of every person that welds/makes bikes, always making the same kind of bike. Choppers, choppers, crying eagles and choppers.

FossilTattoo
Where's our weird bikes?

FossilTattoo
That's what I wanna make.

FossilTattoo
Something unusual and unique.

Odie
They use the same stock frame which is sad.

FossilTattoo
Yeah! And even when they make the frame from scratch, it's still the same.

FossilTattoo
I like what you see when you look up "ugly motorcycles" or "alternative steering motorcycles"

Odie
Yeah, it could be because of patents. Big business is really bad about that.

Odie
YES! You see all kinds of things.

FossilTattoo
Hmph. If and when I learn to weld... oh man.

FossilTattoo
It's going to be ON.

FossilTattoo
It all goes back to "Why dream things? Do them."

Odie
I'd love to see your progress!

FossilTattoo
You will.

Odie
I currently have a Saturn SL-1 2.5 that I'm working on making it into a show car. We need another vehicle first before I can really dig into it.

FossilTattoo
I have a Schwinn Stingray bicycle and a Diamo Retro scooter that doesn't run yet.

FossilTattoo
Go, me.

Odie
Oh hey, it'll be neat when you get it there though.

Odie
They don't make those anymore.

FossilTattoo
Heh, yeah. I would like to paint it and make it kind of 'mod'.

FossilTattoo
It's currently blue.

Odie
It's a neat little project.

FossilTattoo
It's got potential, like everything in my life.

Odie
Just go with that potential and so something with it. You might surprise yourself.

FossilTattoo
I will. Soon. I think perhaps I need to in order to keep from having idle hands.

FossilTattoo
And idle everything else.

FossilTattoo
Thank you, btw. I appreciate this.

Odie
No problem! It's not often I can geek out over motors and car things.

FossilTattoo
Probably more frequently than I can. Most of that stuff I really don't know much about, save for bugs or theoretical stuff I honestly have loads of desire, but no experience in.

Odie
Nothing says you can't learn it.

FossilTattoo
Oh, indeed. I concur.

FossilTattoo
I could. I'll probably glean some of it from rockstarsunglasses as time goes on.

Odie
Nothing wrong with that.

FossilTattoo
I like to learn.

FossilTattoo
I feel like I NEED to learn.

Odie
Now, that's something that I admire. The need to learn is always a great thing to have. My dad is the same way and currently, he's working on restoring a 1985 Ford Bronco and a 1978 Kawasaki. He's almost done

Odie
with the bike.

FossilTattoo
Awesome. I know engine work is a completely separate thing... but I know I could build a frame AND build custom fairings right now.

Odie
It's running and it's street legal, but he still needs to do a few things before it's complete like the paint and replacing the fenders. It's really minor.

Odie
Fender, not fenders.

FossilTattoo
nod

FossilTattoo
That's really cool!

FossilTattoo
I envy that.

Odie
It's funny. My dad was a tank mechanic and he's a lot like how you are. He's always learning.

FossilTattoo
Heh. Indeed.

FossilTattoo
Does it torture him? Or has he dealt with it better than me?

Odie
He's reaching his 60's and he's still working on these things. He's been a mechanic for as long as I can remember. // It's been a torture for him at times.

Odie
Currently, he's learning about making fire bricks.

FossilTattoo
Haha! Relevant to what I'm gonna be doing in Ruby City soon!

Odie
He's also a bit of a prepper.

Odie
Sweet!

FossilTattoo
Like, disaster prepper?

Odie
Yes. After he retired from the Army, he worked for FEMA.

FossilTattoo
Aha.

Odie
He's not a doom's day prepper and we joke about the zombie apocalypse a lot so yeah, he's always asking me when the last time I refreshed me med kit.

FossilTattoo
I'm pretty zen about most stuff like that. On one hand, I want to know what it's like to fight. And on the other hand, I'm not suicidal, but I'm so ready to die. It's complicated.

FossilTattoo
But yes, my girl has her steadfast readiness thing down.

Odie
It's a good thing to have. It's pretty cool I think.

FossilTattoo
I agree. It is cool.

Odie
I think I understand the complication. I'm the same way. I can defend myself pretty well with just about any weapon so that's not a problem.

Odie
It's just going out into the field on the front lines that has be scratching my head. "Is this really a good plan?"

Odie
I'm constantly in debate with myself on those matters even if it's paintball.

FossilTattoo
I think I'm just at peace with the knowledge that I'm going to die, to be quite honest.

FossilTattoo
It isn't a constant thing that's on my mind, but I do think about it.

FossilTattoo
Being prepared for things, to me, it's as prepared as I can try to be for anything, really.

FossilTattoo
I prepared, and took exceedingly preventative measures for a lot of things that ended up happening to me anyway, and I got a unique outlook on things as a result.

FossilTattoo
ANYWAY... I hope that didn't get overly morbid or philosophical.

Odie
No, sorry, I had to leave to pick up my husband but no, that's exactly the kind of thing that really makes sense to me. To be prepared ahead of time isn't morbid.

Odie
It just means that you won't burden someone later.

Dʀᴀʏ
I know this is weird but sometimes I wander into other people's plurks to see what they're up to. As much as writing intros/abouts sucks this was pretty cool.

Dʀᴀʏ
Mind if I follow? I don't have much interesting to say but you know, newbie to plurk, not sure what the polite questions are to ask and things to jump into doing.

FossilTattoo
By all means, feel free!

FossilTattoo
...One more thing. I didn't mention it, even though it's in my name. I'm a tattoo artist.

FossilTattoo
military recollections

FossilTattoo
Sometimes you'll see
in my plurk. That's usually about the clothes I make, and you might see some in-progress shots.

FossilTattoo
