BACKSTORY

A non-corporeal alien intelligence called Intersol, not unlike a more magical version of the Data Integrated Thought Entity from Haruhi, discovers humanity!

It opens a connection to the internet to see what's going on with this young new species.

However, the torrent of conflicting information and disjointed viewpoints and individualism that is the human race overwhelms it and damages its mind, fracturing it.

Two new entities are born as a result, named Linker and Segfault.
Quinneapolis
Both retain Intersol's desire to understand humanity.
Quinneapolis
Linker wants to do it by talking to us, Segfault would rather just take control and sort everything into an easy-to-understand database for future perusal.

so, Segfault finds a guy named Samuel Stanford, a 17-year-old genius hacker, who is writing a virus.
Quinneapolis
Segfault takes control of the virus, then pulls Stanford into the digital world and uses him as a host.

April 1st, 2013!

Segfault strikes, taking down four major computing systems - a banking mainframe, an MMORPG, a search engine and a piece of secret military proprietary software and turning them into its lieutenants.

Whoops, break over, back in an hour.

As Segfault runs wild, Linker searches for someone who has the qualifications to become a warrior who can oppose him.

She finds Dreah King, 41-year-old CEO of an as-of-yet unnamed software giant.

Dreah goes along with it, and becomes Cure Waterfall, the first Precure!
Quinneapolis
Over a week, Waterfall fights Segfault and his lieutenants to a standstill.
Quinneapolis
In their final battle, Waterfall is severely damaged, but manages to lock Segfault and all four lieutenants inside a massive, theoretically unbreakable encryption prison.

Dreah goes back to her normal life of running her business, and Segfault sets about the monumental task of hacking his way back out.

One year passes.

April 1st, 2014!

Segfault breaks a small hole in the defenses locking it in.

Not large enough to escape, but large enough to send his most code-compact lieutenant, Python.

Python is deployed out into the wild of the internet, with the task of searching for and hunting down Linker.

Linker catches wise to the fact that she's in danger again first, and does the same thing she did last time.
Quinneapolis
This time she finds Adele Han, transfer student to as-of-yet-unnamed middle school and amateur programmer.

Adele becomes the first of a new generation of Precure, Cure Prototype, and fights Python to protect Linker!

Over the next few months, Adele and Linker find another three friends to join her in founding a computing club and also to become Cures, as Segfault widens the hole in the prison,

and is able to send forth more of his lieutenants.

At the end of the series, Segfault breaks free from its prison and takes over the entire internet, grinding the world to a halt.

In Internet Unification Mode, he has hundreds of wires coming out of his shoulders and connecting to the surrounding world, evoking angelic wings.

He is ultimately defeated by a combination of three factors:

2. Stanford resisting him from within, trying to break free.

3. Adele making him realize that being free and unpredictable is part of what makes humans human, so enslaving them would mean he'd fail at his prime directive of understanding humanity,
