hard drives are so cheap I would go with 250 GIG for your OS drive you need that if your planning to run zrush maya and other 3d programs on it

you'll want to tweak a few things in the list to allow for that added oomph that gaming computers usually possess.

he's a computer engineer- he has very different requirements in a machine than someone who builds in 3D.

remember, you'll be working in high-quality 3D rendering a ton, you'll want a lot of screen space, a pretty decent video card and lots of memory (both graphics and RAM) to draw on

If you can afford to, I'd recommend you swap out 30GB (i dont think they make this size anyway) with a 256GB solid state disk for Windows and maybe SL/Maya/Blender.

the 1TB will probably be ok at first, plus hard drive prices drop like panties around Daryl from Walking Dead over time, so you can always purchase external drives if you need to, really.

But my main suggestion still stands in getting a decent video card (at least 1GB video memory), a 24" monitor for lots of workspace, and at least 16GB memory to make PS and Blender snippy

(if you never move your desktop, it might save you money to opt for the network port that comes with almost all motherboards, rather than one that has a WiFi adapter, and then just use a cable.)

if you don't like, netflix or stream stuff a lot, probably won't matter to be honest. i'd recommend putting the 50 bucks toward a better CPU, mobo, memory or video card, but it's really has to work with you

Even if he sends you that mobo it already has the basic sound/audio needs that would allow you to avoid buying a separate soundcard
