it should be noted the closest I've ever gotten to RPF is when- wait when did I hurt my thumb, it's bothering me when I hit space - ANYWAY when I used to follow the artist Mallius on tumblr who would do these really cool old Roosterteeth pictures
where they elevated their dumb little competitive Minecraft games into an art series where it was Macbeth level royalty drama of men competing for the crown
yeah alive celebs feels a little Off to me because it has hurt the real life relationships of the living celebs before. but tbf that's also when fans insist on showing it to those celebs
however, as new people have joined fandom over years (esp with recent events like covid locking folks in), and the definition of celebrity has gotten.... loose.... and social media has played a huge role...
unfortunately I think it had to do probably with 1D fans being young and also 1D themselves being young and parents and adults not being proactive enough in keeping everyone behaving appropriately
I think at one point in time as a teen I probably read some LotR and HP RPF, tbf. but I also wasn't meeting those people and telling them about it or showing them fanart
also honestly I'm more likely to forgive teenagers writing/reading Whatever bc they're just exploring. so long as. they know the rule not to bring it to the real life people
