I'm continuing the Scream series with the 2022 movie, which is just called "Scream".

I like how the opening plays with the usual Ghostface call, with most of the lines of dialogue sounding more casual/normal until the reveal. (Though a few like "Hello" and "what's your favourite scary movie?" make it clear who this is)

I'm not familiar with any of the movies that Tara mentioned (the Babadook, the Witch, Hereditary, and there was another one)

Vince Vaughn played someone in Stab haha.

I like how the opening acts as a summary of the first Scream movie in case someone hasn't seen it.

Winced twice at the opening attack.

Liv seems suspicious. (Also, I noticed the Nightmare on Elm Street shout-out on a street sign)

Nice touch that the song Red Right Hand plays when a victim has a bloody right hand.

Sam having conversations with a hallucination isn't going to help views of her sanity.

The phone call from Ghostface saying "Maybe: Amber Freeman" immediately casts suspicion on Amber. (Ghostface said he cloned her phone earlier, but it doesn't seem like it should be that easy)

My guess for Ghostface is Amber and Liv.

"Never trust the love interest." That's not exactly a hard and fast rule. (I think it only applies to the first one)

Rian Johnson ruined the Stab franchise, or at least divided the fanbase. (Which is saying something when Stab 5 involved time travel)

Requel seems like a complicated concept to define.

A reference to Psycho reminds me that I should rewatch that at some point.

It's a horrifying concept that someone gets stabbed to death on their front lawn in broad daylight and nobody does anything.

Happy to see James and Chelsea from Dead Meat making a cameo!

Now I'm questioning Richie. He asked "did you hit me with a phone?", and I'm not sure if that's a callback to "you hit me with the phone, dick!" from one of the killers in Scream 1.

The entrance to Amber's house looks uncomfortably familiar. (I think it might be Stu's house)

Chad got stabbed half a dozen times in the gut; I think he survives even worse in the next movie, but even this feels like a stretch.

The first killer's plan to trap Sidney and Gale fell apart in SECONDS haha.

People have to stop answering the phone when Ghostface is around.

Well, I know who the second Ghostface is by process of elimination.

The second killer gives a rant that feels like it's coming from a Zack Snyder fan.

The first killer gives up way too easily when trying to trick people.

I get that it's a callback, but it must have been so confusing for the other characters when Tara said "I still prefer the Babadook." (I'm not 100% sure what elevated horror is, though apparently Jordan Peele's movies count)

I guess it's just a recurring thing for these movies to have credits music that doesn't fit.

I guess most of the characters are credited in order of last name, but it seems weird when Kyle Gallner is credited second despite being an extremely minor character.

I liked it, though I'm not sure if I liked it more or less than Scream 4. The motivations seemed shallow but entirely possible (especially with how toxic people can be online, and how some people seem dangerously, almost insanely, obsessed), and I thought the new characters were better here than most of the new ones in Scream 4.

The hallucinations were okay; the digitally deaged actor fell into the uncanny valley at times, but I'm glad they didn't go the full-on supernatural route that I was worried that they were going to. (The hallucination seemed more like Sam's darker instincts or her subconsciously picking up on details)
