I once heard my aunt disparage "self-indulgent mental health culture" while in the middle of a literal toddler tantrum. girl i think your inner three-year-old disagrees but ok

self-indulgence is clearly only okay when it comes in the form of raging about how your life sucks but would be perfect if only everyone did exactly what you wanted them to do at all times

zero consideration of the possibility that maybe I spent all my time on the computer because I was depressed and anxious

my boomer MIL got referred to therapy after a serious illness last year and it was LIFE-CHANGING. She should absolutely have gone so much sooner

rather than, quite possibly, being the very things that kept me from doing much more harmful things
