[Gaming] 10yo Xbox/PC controller DIED :C

Looking for suggestions if people have recommendations.
Indilee
I have a temp one to use but it's cheap and I hate the plastic feel of the sticks (it was my nephew's - he left it here when he moved out)
Indilee
Myself and K worked together to open up my old one - the button membrane is fucking shot. The A button sticks and will stay depressed down
Indilee
Car noticed the membrane being busted when I didn't
Indilee
Though it was a good way to learn how to clean the insides of these things better - this is an old @ play controller - the board had 2015 listed inside
Indilee
So like it's old but man, reviews on other ones, third party or otherwise are so varied
Indilee
Also I prefer wired rather than wireless because I hate the wireless lag time
Indilee
The temp'll work for streaming in the mean time but I cannot get replacement membranes for this control due to its age (they don't make them the same anymore) so I'm looking for recs if people have them

for my PC and tablet gameplay I went through two Xbox One controllers that both got stick drift eventually..... I gave up on them and am now using the 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Wireless and I've been very happy with it and it won't get stick drift because it has hall effect sticks.
Colorless Juice
8BitDo has lots of wired options
Indilee
Yeah that was what I was reading, lots of stick drift for Xbones
Indilee
I've heard good things about 8BitDo
Colorless Juice
I also used to have a Logitech wired controller.... I didn't like it, I felt like there was a bit of input lag. 8BitDo has been good though.
Indilee
I have an old Logitech but it's in the PS2 style and I swear it cramps my hands now
Indilee
Like I can use it in a pinch but I'm not fond of the stick placement anymore
Indilee
I did figure out how to get my Switch Pro Controller to Bluetooth into the PC but you have Nintendo button issues and Steam/games I'm playing doesn't play well with it
Colorless Juice
8BitDo defaults to Switch button layout but you can have different button map profiles that you can switch between with a button (at least on the controller model I'm using) so I just have it on the layout for more standard buttons
Indilee
Oh that's pretty nice
Indilee
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into them

I've never had any trouble with 8bitdo controllers.

If you want one that is a close replacement for an Xbox style controller, the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 is the way to go. You can get it in bluetooth or 2.4g wireless styles. The bluetooth model has Nintendo style button layouts, and works natively with Switch and Switch 2, whereas the 2.4g wireless model is a little cheaper, and has Xbox style button layouts.
G30FF
Bluetooth model also has a 2.4g dongle, but is about $10 more expensive.
G30FF
They just came out with the 8bitdo Pro 3, and I really want to get one of those. It's a SNES style controller, but with L2/R2 buttons, and thumbsticks. Also works 2.4g and bluetooth, and all controllers work wired.
G30FF
A friend of mine swears by the GameSir Cyclone 2 controller, which from what I can see is comparable with the Ultimate 2 controller. So it's a matter of preference.
Colorless Juice
G30FF the Ultimate 2 works with Switch? I got the Ultimate 1 instead of 2 because it said it worked with Switch but the other didn't say that.
G30FF
Oh, yeah, I guess you're right
G30FF
Ultimate 1 works with switch, Ultimate 2 does not. My mistake.
G30FF
I think if you prefer Playstation or SNES style controller layout, Pro 3 is the way to go, and if you prefer Xbox feeling, Ultimate is the way to go.
G30FF
Here we go
G30FF
Actually Colorless Juice I was right. There are two versions of the Ultimate 2. Ultimate 2 Wireless, and Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, which is a little more expensive, but works with Switch and Switch 2.

Oh good to know if I need another controller
Indilee
Good to know because my spare is also acting up so it's like UGHHHH
Indilee
I'm going to try cannibalizing the spare to see if the membrane is good and swap it to my original one if it is and see how I go
Indilee
But having options is very good because man my Logitech is a good last ditch for when I'm streaming but my hands fucking hurt
Indilee
I cannibalized the spare for the button membrane, which was like, pristine
Indilee
Gave everything a good clean while I had it apart, put everything back together, and I'm going to test it
Indilee
Already it feels like the buttons are responsive again and the A button doesn't automatically stick so I'm guessing it was the fried membrane
Indilee
Which the membrane position that had the A button was busted and severed leading to sticking
Indilee
IT'S WORKING
Indilee
\8D/!!!!!!!!!!!
Indilee
Indilee
Will still look into getting a spare eventually but right now I'm very happy. This controller is an old reliable and slightly smaller than other controllers (it's not a mini) and fits my hands very comfortably so I was devastated when it wasn't working
Indilee
Also learned how to open up a controller and deep clean, reset pieces, and whatnot. Feeling pretty happy with the experiment!
G30FF
Well done!
