[Food] Sorry for the double plurk, but my latest food adventure is a simple and a weird one all at once.

When you have lost your milk and butter to a fridge dying how do you make mac & cheese?

after looking into many options, I settled with using some of the water the pasta was cooked in and...of all things Mayo!

It actually worked pretty well? I think I might need to add a little more mayo next time. I can't believe I just said that. LOL

Does anyone on my timeline have their own tricks for making mac & cheese when you are missing milk and or butter?

I saw someone mention using chicken stock (water and a bouillon cube) but I thought that might change the taste more than I wanted it to.

I've used chicken stock instead of milk and then used like...condensed soup?

I might have to try that. I usually have cream of mushroom around, just not at the moment. D'oh!

I actually keep some powdered milk around for things like that and just use the pasta water + powdered milk.

I should really get some of that because it's SO handy. It;s just one of those things I've not thought about before

i use a coupla spoons of sour cream instead of milk/butter most of the time and i find it tastes way better

oh now that's something I didn't think about using. I might have to give that a try. I bet it adds a nice tang to it!
