[Doctor Who] I'm continuing Tom Baker's run with "The Sun Makers" - by my understanding, the writer of this serial had issues with income tax and was not subtle about it.

From the first scene alone, that unsubtlety is pretty clear haha. (which is followed up by the Doctor losing to a dog in chess)

Aw, poor K9. (he just wants to go for a walk!)

The head taxman sees the TARDIS on the roof of a building and assumes that it's somehow part of a massive smuggling enterprise (which naturally means that whoever takes part in it owes him a massive amount of money for breaking laws that he very well could have just made up on the spot)

"If you're not back by this time, the girl dies." Pretty sure Leela could kill all of them without breaking a sweat. (and it with K9 on the way there, it seems even less likely)

Not the most intimidating threat, all things considered.

I'll watch two episodes tonight and finish the other two tomorrow. (just starting episode 2)

I find it funny that K9's solution to most problems is "shoot everyone who gets in my way".

Leela just outright shot someone to death. (glad that the executive that the Doctor met earlier was saved, though)

Starting episode 3 - K9's "ooh!" when asked if he wanted a biscuit was great.

The Gatherer keeps making statements that his boss is huge and fat when that's not the case. Not sure if they had meant for the boss to be some morbidly obese alien only for them to not have enough money for the effects or enough time to change the scripts.

The workers are revolting! I find it funny that this episode seems to have accidentally gone communist.

Not sure if Tom Baker is very tall or the actor playing the guard is very short.

I figured that safe cracking was one of the Doctor's many talents, so I found it funny when Leela asked what he's doing and the Doctor admitted that he didn't know.

The Gatherer was straight-up murdered by an angry mob.

Meanwhile, the boss is either as blind as a bat and didn't notice the safe was open or he thinks he's still in control of the situation.

I love how Tom Baker's acting makes it clear that the Doctor can barely tolerate having to make conversation with the Company's boss.

And the boss was treated with all the respect he deserves, returning to his natural state of a green blob and getting flushed down what looks like a toilet.

The Doctor ends the episode by flipping the chess board before he can actually lose. The last two episodes went by faster than the first two. I might watch another serial tonight; I'll see how I feel.
