( doggo ) so brief backstory: my dog Kodi had recall (he'd come when recalled) until he hit 1. then it went out the window. we're at a year and seven months now, and he's been steadily regaining recall

i've been working with him for months with positive reinforcement and treats for managing what i ask and today!

i was alone at the dog park (as in my roommate was not there with her doggo too), and Kodi was having fun playing with the present puppers, running at top speed which he loves to get to do

and he came, as i asked, and walked to the gate with me

this is a very big deal! this is the dog who turned one and then would spend hours running away from my existence at the dog park, until i had my roommate out there and i "left" and then he'd finally go into the double gated area

so having him be here and coming along when asked and just... no issues clipping leash, no fighting it, he checks to make sure i'm Serious (am i going for gate or am i walking the perimeter) and even with another dog licking his face and being playful he still came...

my boy's growing up, i'm so proud of him

... though i need to call the trainer lmfao he still owes me another session, maybe two? i think one last one

i need to keep working on stay with Kodi, that's on me, but this recall was my biggest worry and the progress has been steady because i've kept on top of it

next is being calm around dogs when he wants to meet them, he still gets the puppy wiggle leaps which is cute when they're tiny, but he's 65lbs and his leaps can bring him up to a great height

also he be lucky pup I love him so much because this period is one of those "is my uterus trying to gnaw out of my body" ones ugh

Congrats on training recall. My nightmare boy (1 year old) is getting better at it, but I do not trust him off leash at all.

yeah, i've just hit contained area off leash for Kodi again and it's been both of us rebuilding trust in each other
