it is Dragoncon this weekend and even 20 minutes way i can see the weebs congregating and heard the whispers of it among my coworkers

I haven't been since way back when me and harl and comic tackled it and it was So Much and I assume it's only gotten more Intense

this weekend is solely for flopping, no crowds

AND YET, i have the fomo u_u

I found out they made a section in the artist alley for weebs/cartoony stuff and JUST missed the window to apply lol

so maybe next year if i get in i will attempt to brave it once more. it's been like ten years i think. maybe more?? unsure

Yeah I was gonna say if Harley was involved it wouldn't surprise me if that was part of why

they always do a Dragnocon-themed set (usually also with peach notes because of Georgia)

I went to Dragoncon years ago, and yea, I feel that "too much" lol

I still haven't gone back for that very reason I was overwhelmed, but also the interest was in mostly non-weeb things and younger me was not interested in all the tabletop, ren faire, western media vibes it gave off

so I couldn't fully embrace the con. I feel like now, I can a little more, but mm, still remembering the crowds and party aspect of the con

Taisa : yah its still more western centric but it def embraces anime and cartoons now too. fond memories of beating all the kids (and adults) at pokemon jeopardy uwu

but yeah its def such a party crowd

and just. blocks and blocks of people

i might go downtown just to grab lunch to see how far the sea goes and that will be my extent of participation lol

the vendor situation is:

America's Mart building has dealers and exhibitors floors 1-3, then the pop/comic artists are on floor 4. then there's the Art Show over at the Hyatt which is more like AA but for original art. and within the art show is the "anime alley" where they quarantine the weebs in one section

they HAVE stuck to their guns on capping attendance every year. so there's that

oooh that is good to know for the future

they explicitly said "unless they build another huge hotel with convention space within our footprint, we have to keep capping attendance" which is like that's fair lmao

honestly would not be surprised if they did build one eventually

see they literally put them in weeb jail this year
