So chicken update. It left after a while then it came back tonight & looked like it was about to nest in for the night & I didn't want anything to happen to it so I sucked it up & went to the neighbors house at 9pm to let them know. They were quite glad to hear as their coop was attacked by a hawk a few days ago

& 2 of their chickens have been missing for about 48 hours

they said it was one of the babies that was on our porch.

Now we understand why it was so frantic, instead of just being a troublesome chicken.
