Our work is also doing Windows 11 rollouts, and I don't know what the specs of the company laptops are. (Well, beyond that as an analyst, I apparently get a higher end one than most people.) At least, the rollout is very slow, so they can just go 'no more people are told to upgrade until this gets patched'.
I wonder if it'd still show the ssd in the bios because that'd be on the hardware side before windows is started. If it does show then there's still hope but if it's actually killing the ssd...
I got my first PC (as opposed to a Mac) over ten years ago, but right as I first got it Windows rolled out an update that was bricking hard drives or some such heinous nonsense
And while it didn't affect me at the time, it was all the warning I needed to be a bit slow on jumping on updates before news of potential issues could crop up
I figure a week or so is long enough that if an update has any massive issues, then I'll at least hear about them before it has a chance to hit my system
Also alas, I work in state govt in the US, so it's not really changeable. >.< (also autism brainfunction would throw an apocalyptic fit if I shoot for Too Much change at a time.)
I haven't seen one sadly but basically update kb5063878 has made it so there's a chance that a wuindows 11 computer stops talking to solid state drives. The video recommends uninstalling that update if you have windows 11 and a SSD
It turns out that Windows 11 KB5063878 (Build 26100.4946) has a bug that causes the SSD to “vanish” or the partition to show up as “RAW,” which means the storage might not appear in File Explorer (Windows) and even the BIOS. The issue can be reproduced during a perfect stress test when you meet certain criteria.
A stress test requires heavy write activity to some SSDs, which can also naturally happen when you’re updating a large game.
Now, that’s not an issue with Cyberpunk 2077 or other apps/games. The Windows 11 SSD failure issue showed up right after the Cyberpunk 2077 update because those game patches are huge and create a long, heavy write workload.
it does seem to be a pretty specific bug. i actually already had it installed back on 8/12 and didn't know it until i just checked. I've removed it just to be safe.
I highly recommend going into your Windows Update settings, and turn off "Get Windows updates as soon as they're available." I'm pretty sure that's what saved me from getting this update.
i've been putting off 24H2 for months and won't install until it becomes un-pausable for good (currently doing the "postpone for 5 weeks" dance with it) because when it DID initially install on my computer it completely bricked my microphone/headset... which has been a known issue they won't fix for like a year at this point, iirc. 24h2 is full of nonsense
