(Like That = I have the strong suspicion that Penric's patron deity (aka the trickster god of the pantheon) nudged things to unite Penric and Desdemona, because it meant he got Penric as a priest AND because he thought they'd make a good team.)

Either way, Penric's reaction to being a lot more in touch with the supernatural, having a chaos elemental sharing his body, and a priest of a trickster deity means that people who don't know any of that think that he is probably crazy.
