Call center metrics are bullshit, and I feel like they're designed to make operators fail.

They're there to get customers off the phone as quick as possible.

Actually resolving the problem in that time frame isn't really ever the concern.

The call center I worked in for the longest had a satisfaction metric because we would send surveys. It was rough.

And I was front line at a different call center, which also still had the customer satisfaction thing, but they measured closed calls and escalations.

It felt like every time I improved one metric, another would suffer, and I'd get called out on the one that suffered. They kept contradicting each other.
