"You're only a citizen if you have the means to defend yourself in court" seems like a bad look for the greatest country in the history of the world.

so can Barron Trump be a test case?

This is really the theme of this and the previous administrations. There is no pretense of obeying laws. They are doing whatever they choose and challenging anyone to stop them. And so existing laws are going unenforced, court challenges go from federal judge to federal judge upholding or denying and maybe the ruling is followed or maybe not.

The rule of law is currently whatever trump or his handlers and toadies say it is, and too many people are going along with it from fear or apathy. His violations are vastly more egregious than his first term, and nobody even pretends to believe he can be removed from office by the existing safeguards.

And there is a nasty reality check waiting for all the old guard who intend to just hang out and wait out this term. They are spending four years building a regime that will not end in 2028, whether he is alive or not. And belief that midterms can somehow save us seems pretty naive.

Sitting on our hands hoping for a miracle while they spend two years completely removing all congressional power and authority with the assistance or apathy of the current Congress is not going to result in a last minute deus ex machina reversion to life before 2016.
