had a robot scammer on the landline phone (after quite a long gap without any - possibly because of all the months the phone line was broken!). This one was pretending to be HMRC. I didn't follow its instructions so it hung up.

a previous year I had been able to just keep them on the line for ages and possibly make a dent in their ability to make calls (as judged by the online graphs of reported scammer activity).
