Happy Father’s Day to Hugh Campbell Sr. who is prob one of the most decent of my muses dads so he might be the only one I wish a happy Father’s Day

He’s played by Simon Pegg and is just a sweet kind of lame dude who basically raised Hughie alone for the majority of his childhood. I think Hugh Sr. was going through a lot and ended up a bit overprotective of Hughie given there are points he still treats him like a kid and he tells him not to fight Vought over what happened to Robin

He did his best overall though I think and I get emotional thinking about Hugh Sr. Which he does not meet a lot of the usual “me Jr.” namer criteria since. I think he is named Hugh Sr. mainly for the meta joke bc Comics Hughie is a dead ringer for Simon Pegg remind me to get a photo of comics Hughie later

Ruby’s dad is...well...he may be towards the bottom of the Father of the Year competition given the strongest impact he’s had in her life is killing her mom

Then Kana’s dad if you go by the light novel cheated on her mom and left so. The OnK dad competition is about as much of a race to the bottom as the mom one is

Then Shiv (finally I remember to bold these) has got Logan Roy for a father which Jesus H Christ he is a nightmare to all of his kids in unique ways

I could write a whole ass plurk just about what a shit dad Logan Roy is. He still treats Shiv like a little girl in a lot of ways in that he calls her “Pinky” and doesn’t take her all that seriously (then again does he take any of his kids seriously) and yells at her to the point of reducing her to tears

She’s also desperate for his approval deep down and bends her morals on that. I can see Shiv having had a big “fuck you dad” phase in her twenties and then focusing on a liberal political manager career partially to piss him off and get him to take her seriously. But he never will bc she’s the youngest and his only daughter

I’ll eventually pick up Roman as well and Logan was also uniquely awful to him like. All the Roy children suck but ohhh Logan Roy when I fucking get you

Let’s continue some bad dad momentum with Billy Butcher. His dad was abusive and probably the root of his alcoholism and the one time we see his dad in present day Billy nearly throws him off a balcony. You can probably guess how Billy feels about his dad

Also does not help that his dad is largely responsible for his little brother’s death and has the attitude of “well I made you tougher so it worked out didn’t it”

GOT DISTRACTED BUT THE OTHER IMPORTANT FATHER’S DAY RELATED THING ABOUT BUTCHER IS THAT HE IS ALSO THE DAD WHO STEPPED UP which is smth he does not feel equipped for bc he does not want to potentially pass on his own shit to a kid but he’s gotta do his best

His success rate is...debatable but he also has the worst custody battle ever going given Ryan’s bio dad is fucking Homelander

Any kid whose bio dad is Homelander is already fucked. Butcher can only be an improvement, even with all his faults

I really liked that about Billy and Ryan.

Ok Barry we only get one scene of his dad but from the content of that scene and the way he is with the other father figures in his life you cannot tell me that Barry has a normal relationship with his father nobody can. Even if Bill Hader himself told me I’d say “no he didn’t. Watch your show again.”

Lotta Daddy Issues behavior from Barry Berkman is all I’m saying. There’s also prob something to how his main fantasy is being a good suburban dad. And that’s not even getting into the more spoilery stuff about this theme in the show. Have I mentioned I’m insane over HBO’s Barry bc

Ok shit I’m trying to remember who else’s dad is an actual character in their source material. Eve also has a father figure played by Stephen Root and he makes me sad. Her actual father is kind of a jerk to her a lot of the time. He makes a couple fair points but he’s also a belligerent guy who feels weird about his daughter being a superhero

They’re starting to patch up some stuff where I’m at in s3 and it is interesting. Eve’s family situation is. Complicated

We also have yet to see Carmy’s dad but it doesn’t seem like he was all that close to his father. Idr if the guy’s alive or not all I remember is that he and Donna split at some point and that they were arguing as she was going into labor with Carmy so that paints a picture alright

...I think Hughie aside the best dads of my characters might be Mob’s dad who is a normal guy and secondary character, and Jimmy McGill’s, who did not think his son would steal from the cash register and then died. Chuck says that Jimmy was a wreck at the funeral so he did love his dad a lot but thought said dad was a bit of a sucker

Jimmy’s dad got hustled by people needing money or other stuff from the store a lot bc he was a kindhearted man who didn’t hold a lot of suspicion towards people. And Jimmy just kinda took the lesson of conning others first
