[Cat Owners!] I'm looking to get a new litter type and am asking for recos. Requirements: Clumping, Unscented, Clay. Looking for one that isnt dusty and doesn't track everywhere
annakratos
I used to use Dr. Eisleys and it was great, but it was hard to get off the side of the box, and it became very dusty recently
annakratos
I was using Tidy Cats Instant Action, but it doesn't dry great so its a pain to scoop, and also it really smells like ammonia when you scoop it. But it barely tracked, which I loved
annakratos
And most recently I've been testing Tidy Cats Free & Clean, which dries great, very scoopable, no odor, but it tracks EVERYWHERE
annakratos
so Im once again in the market to try yet another new litter
annakratos
Unfortunately, the Unscented Clumping Clay is a requirement per the vet for Princess, so no alternative litters are viable
Rabbit Witch
Catgirl Crimes
Unfortunately the litters we use are tofu and corn based respectively - flushable and a little low tracking depending on the cats though
Jay
pretty litter? it's silica based but you only have to change it once a month?
Angry Popoto
Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Slide is what I’ve been using for a long time! I don’t know if it qualifies as a clay type of litter, but otherwise it’s fantastic.
Angry Popoto
It does track out a bit, but not too far, and it’s easily sweepable?
Bat Matt
Flushing litter, if your area has a waste water treatment facility, is not a great idea. They aren't usually equipped to deal with the bacteria and parasites present in cat poop.
Bat Matt
Sadly I have no litter recs, as I have never been owned by a cat.
annakratos
Sadly cannot do silica. I would have loved to do pretty litter bc of all of chinnies health things, but the vet said Princess needs clay bc it feels "the most natural/like dirt" and thats a reco for her idiopathic cystitis
annakratos
Angry Popoto : Do you have a link? The one I found is scented, and I need unscented
annakratos
Princess is such a princess

Angry Popoto
Arm & Hammer’s stuff, if scented, is usually such a mild scent that I can’t actually tell any of it. The baking soda actually neutralizes most scents in general, which has been a godsend in the past with my old Reactor Butt cat
annakratos
Hmmm, chewy says it is scented, though, and cats noses are stronger than humans. Maybe I'll send the link to my vet and ask her for her opinion on the matter
Angry Popoto
That sounds like a good plan! Aside from the scented/unscented issues, I know that it is very easily scoopable without clinging to the sides, and very low dust.
Angry Popoto
And yes, it definitely clumps XD
annakratos
thats good, bc chinnie pees a lot (hes diabetic) so I need very good litter lol
Angry Popoto
And if you find another litter that does what you need but is stinks a lot when it’s used, sprinkling some baking soda or activated carbon (found in the fish section of pet stores) and then mixing it in can make a huge difference!
Worser Punk 💥
I have to definitely recommend AWAY from tidycats light weight because I have never experienced so much dust in my life
Worser Punk 💥
like yeah it weighs like a third as much but I felt like I smokebombed myself pouring it into the box
annakratos
noted, ty!

I ended up going with Angry Popoto : reco, but i upgraded to the platinum bc its for multicat and supposedly has better odor control. there is a slight scent to it, but princess doesn't seem to mind it, and it also doesn't bother me, and a lot of the scented ones do, so that's good
annakratos
it clumps so well and scoops very easily. they definitely kick a bit of litter out when they go on, but it doesn't seem to track around the apartment so far. also absorbs odors great! so I think this is the winner :-)
