Shouldn't people who are married to US citizens have at least some protections and/or a path to citizenship in theory? (I know this admin is breaking all the rules and laws, but this is the second time I've seen stories about people married to citizens being deported)

: I'm not really an expert on immigration law just a general attorney who's second chaired/support on some case but yeah our protections for spouses of American citizens has never been....great and application of rules has varied. Interviews for green cards for spouses have often been ridiculously invasive to prove it's not a ~sham marriage~
Here's a quick rundown, but basically. Be married for three years to someone who's been a citizen for three years, spend 18 months of those physically present in America, fill out naturalization paperwork, and maybe you'll get the thumbs up.
