and that + someone on set thinking way too hard about all the ways a mass of flesh-eating ooze would be terrifying, actually, led to great things (that also probably still haunt people).
The kind where you want to sit down with the director and the effects team like "First of all I just wanna say you do great work, this was a marvel, but also I don't think it's a good idea for you guys to hang out with each other anymore."
And not a horror movie, but definitely a scary action movie I probably should not have seen as a youngin'... Predator had me seeing the outline of a cloaked alien in my dark closet at night for a while. I kept looking for those three red dots.
I didn't see any of the Alien movies when I was that young. Just the first Predator movie. I didn't go near any of them for a long time... probably because of it. LOL
something about how they were just so damn silent when they wanted to be and could just disappear into the darkness and you'd never even know they were there, plus them being so absolutely vicious and unrelenting, was GREAT to think about
And then there were movies that my parents were sure would get to me, and none of them really did. They didn't want me watching Robocop, but I saw that at a friend's house during a sleepover. Didn't bother me. We made jokes about some of the grosser scenes. Another one was Jaws. I actually loved sharks as a kid.
Yeah... I was a small child watching Jaws while eating Spaghetti-Oh's... and I started calling for my parents to come quick because the shark was going to eat the kids on the raft, and I was excited about it hahaha
So I've either sparked joy or destroyed a friendship, time will tell.
