Character moms.

Bel and Ilphyl’s mom was a priestess of Lolth and head of the family. She was not a good mother, unless you could the fact that all her kids survived their childhoods, which is not a guarantee in drow society

Ilphyl’s Druidic mentor sort of made up for it in that she took a parental role. Granted, it took some time for Ilphyl to figure that out.

Simon had two moms. Nominally his legal mother was his father’s wife, but his bio mother was their human lover. (Simon and his brother were magically shifted to full-fae as babies to avoid stigma.)

Simon was willing to pick a fight with his brother over not acknowledging their mom, so he was pretty close to her.

Ironically, the kids lost their fae parents to war before their human mother died.

Penric was also a mama’s boy. One of his first questions when he found out he was going to seminary was if his mother would be proud

His first boss (he was the court sorcerer to the king’s aunt) also tended to be maternal to him, as he was a nice young man from the middle of nowhere.

Of the lot, only Desdemona (Penric’s demon) has memories of being a mother, and she didn’t actually get to be one until after the canon point I picked for penric

(Chaos elementals and pregnancy do not go well together. So it’s easier for a sorcerer to be a father than a mother, biologically speaking)

I suppose Ilphyl could decide to call themselves whatever they want if they become a parent. They aren’t nearly ready for parenthood though
