There are also the Tortall books by Tamora Pierce, I would start with the Alana books, move on to Daine and go from there doing the prequel series last. Very good, good world building and nice arcs. Though a little too romantic relationship focused for me during Alanna's arc. There are relationships in the other books too, just not quite so... in your face

Xanth books can get bawdy in some books, but the other ones are good. All bad puns in a highly magical world where the rule is basically if you can figure out the pun you can make the thing work. First book follows someone who is trying to find proof he has some magical talent, any magical talent, because if he doesn't have one he'll be exiled.
