[politics] so I'm looking at the results from the Canadian election and seeing... some seriously weird stuff.

Le Comtesse
looks like the Liberals did a lot better than expected, but missed having a total majority by 4 seats, which means they're going to need to negotiate with the New Democratic Party to get things done.

Le Comtesse
Pierre Polivre didn't just lose the election, he also lost his seat, so the Maple Flavored Trump is out of there.

as I understand it, this summarizes the new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, pretty well:

we are the deadest canary in the most obviously dangerous coal mine and everyone else is going 'ah shit don't want that

So, PP has lost his seat, but hasn't lost leadership of the party. (yet)

ദ്ദി •⩊• )
Jagmeet Singh also lost his seat, but resigned, and the NDP in general had a rough go.

Le Comtesse
will PP lose leadership of the party? Can he remain leader without a seat? I haven't been able to get a firm answer for that.

ദ്ദി •⩊• )
He can. But his party might challenge him, or they might have one of their own step down, run a re-election, and get him into that seat.

it's not wholly great news. the libs are on a major rightward swing such they are more a center-right party than anything, now, and they won not by gaining NDP (leftist voter) voters but by gaining tory (rightwing voter) votes. which does still mean that those voters have no confidence in the tory party rn, tho, so there is a silver lining in that cloud
